Dr. Ellie Newcomb, DVM

Ellie Newcomb, DVM

Dr. Newcomb was an animal-lover from the start. To her mom’s displeasure, this meant bringing all kinds of creatures home as a child, including giant moths, earthworms, and even snakes, as well as the more conventional stray cats and fallen nestlings.

Her fascination with animals led her to first pursue an art degree from the University of San Diego, where animals were always the subject of her work. Realizing she wanted a profession that would not only center on animals but benefit them as well, she went on to study Wildlife Biology at Washington State University.

Dr. Newcomb assisted in nutrition-related research at the Jennings Center for Zoological Medicine, investigating ultraviolet light transmission in primate and reptile enclosures. She took part in a U.S. Forest Service Terrestrial Ecology study by identifying mammals and birds inhabiting Old Growth forests of the Pacific Northwest. She completed a preceptorship at the Burnett Park Zoo in upstate New York where she hand-reared zoo orphans, and completed another preceptorship at the Atlanta Humane Society where she treated abused and injured animals. She also worked for the Ohio Department of Public Health on the Vector-Borne Disease Unit, banding and sampling wild bird populations for the St. Louis Encephalitis Virus.

Dr. Newcomb continued on to receive her Degree in Veterinary Medicine from the Ohio State University. After working as an associate in the frigid Chicago suburbs, she returned to San Diego where she eventually made her home at Paradise Ridge Pet Clinic (originally Animal Medical Clinic of Valley Center). Here, she enjoys spending time with her favorite Valley Center residents and their pets.

Dr. Newcomb has lived in Valley Center for more than 20 years with her husband, where they raised two children along with everything else from horses and pigs to guinea hens and ducks. When she’s not caring for the area’s furry friends, she enjoys traveling, photography, hiking and kayaking.

Trina West

Trina West

Trina has been a resident of Valley Center and a client of Paradise Ridge Pet Clinic since 2002. She joined the PRPC team in January 2013 to assist with regulatory compliance and business management services; however, she quickly found herself assisting with all facets of the practice. Trina earned a BA in Environmental Sciences from the University of Hawaii. She is married with two daughters and a household full of critters including: dogs, cats, horses, goats, sheep, pigs, rabbits, chickens and turkeys. Trina loves animals and enjoys learning new things; both of which are part of each day at Paradise Ridge Pet Clinic!

Sherry Pata

The cheerful voice of Paradise Ridge Pet Clinic belongs to Sherry, a long time resident of North County. She married her high school sweetheart and has two grown sons. Sherry currently is a mom to 1 Labrador and 2 kitties, and has had various types of pets throughout her life. Sherry was previously a volunteer at the Escondido Humane Society along with a low cost spay and neuter clinic. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening (roses), reading (especially mysteries), cooking (she makes a mean fresh salsa), cycling around Lake Hodges, and traveling. She had an amazing visit to India with her husband recently, but her favorite spot is Savannah, Georgia, as she loves the history and old-fashioned traditions of the South.

Yadira Valtierra

Yadira is our newest addition to the PRPC team. She's lived in Valley Center her entire life and currently owns two dogs, three playful goats, and multiple chickens. As a toddler she loved rescuing bees, lizards, and birds, which sparked her love for animals and an aspiration to help them. Although different circumstances led her to obtain a Certificate of Proficiency in Accounting, she unexpectedly found herself back to doing one of the things she loves most: saving animals and helping them heal.
